Role Description

The Bexley Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Information, Advice & Support Service (IASS), is looking to recruit an IASS Officer in Bexley.

Bexley IASS is an impartial & confidential service commissioned by Bexley local authority and working at arm’s length from the local authority to provide impartial information, advice and support to children and young people with SEND up to 25 years, and their parents / carers.

IASS works closely with a range of partners, including Parent Carer Forum (Bexley Voice) schools & colleges, health, social care, the Local Authority and the voluntary sector.

This is an opportunity for the right person to make a real difference to the lives of families with children and young people with SEND by empowering them to participate in decisions made about their education, health and social care needs.

Your role will involve providing information, advice and support working within the SEND CODE of Practice (2015), the Children & Families Act (2014), the Equality Act (2010) and other relevant legislation. Your role will include:

  • Providing parents/carers with information advice and support on a range of subjects related to SEND.
  • Supporting the development of events/information sessions for C&YP and their families
  • Utilizing your experience in using a range of media to enable and empower C&YP and their families to access and understand SEND information

Our ideal person will be enthusiastic about engaging and empowering parents / carers, children and young people with SEND. You will have:

  • a creative approach to engagement and co-production;
  • the ability to create effective working relationships with a range of other professionals;
  • excellent communication and organisational skills;
  • knowledge of local/national SEND practice and guidance;
  • be able to sign post parents and carers to avenues of support

We will provide full training towards attaining the relevant IPSEA qualifications in special educational needs & disability (SEND) law.
