VCS Covid-19 E-bulletin: Issue 5 

Please find advice and resources below which should help you to sustain and adapt your organisations through this difficult period. There are new things coming out every day and we are working to keep you up to date. We’ll be sending regular bulletins and we encourage you to follow us on Twitter (@BexleyVSC). We also need to know how we can help you. If you have a moment, please fill out this webform. Whether you need advice, guidance, or more volunteers please do let us know. It is essential that we know what help you need, your challenges and issues. We may able to help or can direct you as appropriate.  We are also in regular contact with The London Borough of Bexley and the CCG and will be feeding in gaps, pressures and local issues.

Bexley Covid-19 community response update:

BVSC have established a Volunteer Hub and over 1000 people have registered to volunteer. If you need volunteers please do get in touch- we are placing people with specific expertise such as fundraising, IT and administration and groups of volunteers who can help for example with dropping off food or telephone welfare checks.

London Borough of Bexley is here to support you during the Coronavirus pandemic. Many of you will have friends, family, neighbours and other support networks to help you, but if not Bexley Council are here if you need help.

Whether you need someone to get shopping, pick up other essentials, or to give you information, guidance and advice.

The helpline will be open from 8am to 8pm you can alternatively apply for help online.

Surveys:

  • Bexley Healthwatch survey for you to share with your clients - Help us to help services understand the issues that are currently affecting your care, and that of your loved ones, by taking part in our short survey. Giving us feedback takes just minutes, but the impact can last a lifetime (no deadline stated).
  • NCVO survey - Together with other representative bodies, they are continuing to make the case for further support as the pandemic impacts the finances of charities everywhere. Please help make a case by completing the survey. It should only take around 20 mins to complete and the survey will be open until 25 May 2020
  • London COVID-19 Strategic Co-ordination Group (SCG) - The GLA and partners invite you to join a cohort of organisations tracking the impact of Covid -19 on vulnerable or risk groups across London and the organisations supporting them.  For further info contact civilsociety@london.gov.uk

  • Bexley Safeguarding Partnership (SHIELD) Training and Events e-bulletin -May Issue - packed with FREE online training 
  • Partnership For Young London - FREE webinars for groups working with CYP
  • Federation of Detached Youth Work - they are keen to offer webinars in any of the following topics:- Detached, street based and outreach work (including with mobile vehicles); Dynamic risk assessing of work; Guidance and good practice on working during Covid-19 with young people in communities; Community reassurance; How to work with police and local Covid-19 mutual groups; Coming out of lockdown and restorative approaches etc. Please also see their youtube channel to watch/ listen to past detached youth work conferences
  • The Social Switch Project - A free interactive course for professionals working with young people about the challenges and opportunities presented by social media (Click  here to book: Thurs 28 May or Friday 29 May 9.15 - 1.15pm)
  • London Plus and partners - briefing session on recovery planning for London’s civil society organisations on 21 May from 2.30 - 4pm. The session will cover practical considerations in light of the changing lockdown guidelines, an overview of London’s recovery planning and an update on funding in London as we move out of immediate crisis response. This session builds on feedback received through the London Community Response Survey about key concerns facing civil society.

Update on available funding - applications for 'Crisis Response' funding continuing, but pausing new applications from 19 May for 'Delivering Differently' grants  

The Youth Endowment Fund opens new £6.5m COVID-19 grant round to support vulnerable young people at risk of youth violence.

  • The Resourcing Racial Justice Fund Deadline 15th June (not a short deadline but worth getting application in quick and joining the webinar on 20th May) Webinar is on 20th May for those who have applied, applications open 18th May.

Organisations will be able to apply for grants between £5,000 and £50,000. The fund aims to provide financial support to organisations, community and grassroots groups that are working to redress the impact of COVID-19 and beyond on those who identify as POC (which includes other terms such as BAME, racialised people and black, indigenous, people of colour BIPOC).
