What is a Trustee?

A trustee is a person who volunteers on the board of a charity, so it’s less about doing the day to day work but guiding the charity and helping it be the best charity it can be. Trustees don’t need to be super knowledgeable or highly skilled, they just need to be passionate about making Bexley a better place to live and interested in the charity they choose. You do need to be over 18 and interested in how charities play a part in their community.

What does a Trustee do?

Charities can be very small with no paid staff and others can be larger charities.  Trustees help manage the charity by using their experience, skills, or ideas to support the charity to be best it can be. Each charity is different and has different challenges, but you’ll be working to secure your charities future and help them make a positive impact on people’s lives.

How much time do I have to volunteer?

Most boards meet 4-6 times a year for a couple of hours each time, but depending on your interests or availability you might want to give more time.

Why would someone become a trustee?

People do it for all sorts of reasons. Some people take it on alongside education or work to gain more skills and experience, and some people get into it after retiring to give back to their community. It’s immensely rewarding to feel like you’re part of a charity that’s doing great work in the borough
